Dear Nancy & Friends,
An ex co-worker of mine made these for the open house of our
public library's centennial (June 4, 1989). Very Good!
Toffee Squares
1 cup butter (do NOT substitute oleo or Crisco!)
2 cups flour
1 tsp. vanilla
1-8oz. Hershey bar
1 cup ground nuts (whatever you have)
1 cup brown sugar
1 egg yolk
Cream butter & sugar until light & fluffy. Add egg yolk &
flour. Add vanilla last. Spread very thinly on a 10x15"
baking sheet. Bake at 350 degrees about 20 minutes, but
don't overbake. Put Hershey bar on top of cookie surface
after they are done baking. Allow chocolate to soften &
spread on the surface as frosting. Sprinkle with the nuts
while chocolate is still soft. Cut bars while warm.
