Ensure Type Drink
8 oz. milk
1 serving protein powder per directions on box (can get it
at WalMart, a canister with 13 servings 1 T. oil
(flaxseed/canola blend or plain canola) Sugar to taste to
cut the taste of the oil
Powdered drink mix to taste (chocolate or strawberry Quik
or other, optional)
High Protein Breakfast Shake
This recipe is taken from Dr. Sidney Baker's book The
Circadian Prescription. This milkshake is an excellent way
to start the day- high protein, high omega-3 fatty acids, no
added sugars, no
artificial colors or flavors. It's easy, fast and tasty. If
your child is sensitive to milk, replace the milk and yogurt
with soy milk. If your child
is sensitive to both milk and soy, substitute 6 ounces of
Enriched Rice Dream Milk for the milk and yogurt, and rice
protein for the soy protein.
3 ounces whole milk
3 ounces plain yogurt
1 tablespoon ground flaxseeds
3 tablespoons soy protein isolate
1/4 cup blueberries or strawberries, fresh or frozen.
Put the milk and yogurt in a blender.
Process on low while adding other ingredients until smooth
Liquid Lo-Cal Diet drink
1 large size can of evaporated milk (used to be 13 oz.
Probably about 12 now.)
10 oz water
4 Tbs sugar or honey
2 1/2 Tbs Mazola oil
pinch of salt
dash of vanilla extract or leftover coffee or whatever else
appeals to you for flavoring.
Mix in a blender.
Yield: about three 8 oz. glasses - approximately 300
calories each.
